Learn about the Mayan civilization, indigo techniques, and much more history of El Salvador. In this attraction, visitors will discover a pre-Hispanic ceremonial center with various mounds and structures that envelop you in a mystical environment surrounded by nature.
The museum is a must-see, its architecture was inspired by the old houses of the colonial haciendas, with long corridors encircling a pleasant central patio. It is made of adobe and tile, it is a postcard in itself.
The museum exhibits the only stela with Mayan writing known in El Salvador, it is a fragment and almost all of its text was intentionally erased in the pre-Hispanic past, as researchers say. This piece is very interesting.
The site also has an archaeological window, which shows a series of natural and cultural strata, among which stands out the white layer of volcanic ash deposited by the great eruption of the Ilopango volcano (5th century AD).
And how can you leave Casa Blanca without visiting the indigo workshop? There you will eyewitness the different dyeing methods and materials applied to the production of blue-dyed shirts, handbags, and other products. Also, if you are lucky, you will see the “obraje” or works, as they could be in full production, that is, you could see how they mix the natural coloring in the old water containers and how the pieces are introduced using different techniques.
